Blackness History Calendar month w/ The Faso DanFani on The Runway

Burkina Faso (West Africa) is i of the major cotton producing countries (1st African Producer, ninth worldwide for the period 2015/2016); which is likely to promote the country's textile production. In 1983 following the "revolution" with Thomas Sankara, the mill was renamed Faso DanFani.

A Conversation With Community Elders About the Nairobi Movement

Community elders who played leading roles during the Nairobi Movement will accept a conversation sharing personal stories almost the Blackness Experience in Eastward Palo Alto during the Nairobi era.

San Mateo County has a vibrant history in Due east Palo Alto as a prominent hub for Blackness culture and activism in the Bay Area and nationally. It's a history that many in the county are unaware of and still holds local and national significance. During Black History Month, it's specially important to learn this local history through the stories of the leaders who built it.

The Nairobi Movement was a political, social and cultural renaissance period in East Palo Alto between 1960 and 1980. It was a fourth dimension when Blackness people organized and took political action to gain community control of authorities, educational activity, wellness, social and cultural institutions in the community.

Bring together Dr. Artel Nifty, the SFSU George and Judy Marcus Endowed Chair in African American Cinema Studies for this four-session seminar exploring the subconscious histories of Blackness picture palace and social change. Over the course of our seminar sessions, we will analyze a range of feature films, both documentary and narrative, that highlight the intellectual history, aesthetic practices, and cultural politics of Black cinema and examine how these films have managed to forecast, initiate, and visualize social alter in a wide variety of contexts from Black silent era films to Blaxploitation, the L.A. Take a break and build a practice of wakefulness and repose here in the African American Eye with Inability rights activist and contributor to the Netflix documentary,Crip Camp, Dennis Billups. There is time for questions (optional) after the meditation session. This is a secular approach to an old tradition. Appropriate for people of all faiths including atheists.
